Based on Dorial Green-Beckham's decision this morning, some of the top college football programs in the land have something to lose and much to gain.
But one school has already won the DGB Sweepstakes: Hillcrest High School.
"I've heard people say that even bad publicity could be good publicity," Hillcrest Principal Jay Rush said. "Well this has all been good. It is something that, if we had the money to pay for, we could've never gotten what has happened for us."
Rush said Green-Beckham has packed houses for football and basketball games throughout the years. "We have sellout games where people want to watch Dorial," he said. "It's put Hillcrest on the map."
Today, the star player will pack the school's gymnasium one more time as students, media and school officials wait to hear his intentions for college. As of Tuesday evening, Green-Beckham's stated finalists were Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.
However, the latest national speculation has the Hornet deciding between just two teams: Arkansas and Missouri.
Hillcrest cheerleaders and pep band are planned to welcome students and guests into the gym at about 8:30 a.m. today.
It is just another perk of being a Hillcrest cheerleader, senior cheer captain Brooke Erwin said, after cheering on national television and in college stadiums during the football season because of Green-Beckham.
"We get to do more things than other cheerleaders get to do," she said. "To know you went to school with him, the No. 1 national recruit and player of the year, is just an honor just in itself."
The buzz around the school the past couple weeks, while coaches have wandered the halls of Hillcrest wooing Green-Beckham with helicopter arrivals and luxury bus caravans, has DGB choosing to go to Arkansas.
"But (the students) want him to go to Mizzou," Erwin said. "I think he's going to Mizzou."
