KSDK -- A St. Louis Public Schools student is going to get a chance to show her academic ability on national television.

Kennedy Stomps is a junior at Metro Academic and Classic High School.  She is a contestant for the prestigious Jeopardy! 2009 Teen Tournament, airing November 2nd through November 13th.

Approximately 3,000 students passed the online screening and 350 students were selected for the "in-person" audition to earn one of the 15 spots in the national tournament.

Stomps, a trivia buff and "Jeopardy" fan, credits Mr. James Economon, her sophomore literature teacher, for inspiring her to take the online test.

"Every day last year Mr. Economon would ask us Jeopardy-type questions based on our subject matter at the beginning of each class to get our brains focused on what we were reading," says Stomps. "I did so well on his questions, that I thought I had nothing to lose by trying out!"

She decided to take the 50 question online test.

After scoring well on the online exam, Stomps was contacted by producers in May and invited to Chicago for an "in-person" audition where she had to pass another 50 question written test, compete in a short version of Jeopardy!, and participate in a brief personality interview.

A few months later Stomps flew out to Los Angeles to begin taping as a contestant on the show. For her family, who consider themselves "little-known knowledge junkies," seeing Stomps on Jeopardy is the "opportunity of a lifetime."

The winner of this tournament will bring home a cash prize of $75,000.

To support Kennedy Stomps as a contestant for the Jeopardy! 2009 Teen Tournament, please tune in at 3:30 pm daily, November 2nd through November 13th, on KSDK Channel 5.
