St. Louis (KSDK) -- A man who received a heart transplant in 2008 thanked DMV workers for their part in helping to register organ donors and tissue donors.

Larry Bonds and the Mid-America Transplant Services went to the St. Louis City Hall DMV Office to thank their employees. Bonds passed out t-shirts to the staff.

98-percent of people who register to become a donor do it when they are renewing their drivers license.

The event helped recognize Donate Life Month in April, an annual observance created to raise awareness of the vast need for registered organ and tissue donors.
