Officers say a road rage incident began near Stanton, Missouri around 7:30 p.m. Monday. The suspect and the victim were driving south on Highway W, about a mile south of the Stanton Post Office, when the teen fired shots at a vehicle and followed the victim to his home. The victim had two children in the car. Nobody was injured.
The victim went inside his home, and the suspect began firing shots at the home. The victim then emerged with a gun and fired back at the suspect. A neighbor heard the commotion, grabbed a shotgun and also shot at the suspect's vehicle. Nobody was injured.
Police say the suspect's car, a silver VW Passat, was found abandoned near Meramec Caverns and after they ran the license plate discovered it was listed as stolen from St. Louis.
Authorities say the suspect then found the caretaker's home and took her hostage.
The suspect eventually let the caretaker go, and surrendered a short time later.
